Coalescence purifiers

Purifiers for very fine oily mists

Coalescer filter

Coalescence purifiers are ideal in cases where it is necessary to filter oily mists made up of tiny particles. Examples of such cases are hot mouldings and certain mechanical processes with high-pressure lubricating-cooling circuits.
They allow the effective separation of solid and oily sub-micron particles from the gaseous current.

How does filtering take place?

The principle of coalescence consists in the adhesion of the particles to form agglomerates of different sizes, capable of being separated.
From a physical point of view, the phenomenon is spontaneous. In fact, adhesion implicates a reduction of the total energy (linked to the reduction in surface tension) that natural systems spontaneously tend towards.

In this type of process, the filtering septum, made up of special fibres, allows the dissemination of the undesirable species, providing a site for coalescence to take place. After separation, the liquid phase descends back down the cartridge by gravity and is drained, allowing an undefined interaction of the process (disposal and/or collection of the filtered oil for reuse or disposal).

The solid phase, on the other hand, is kept in the porous medium, making it necessary to replace the filtering septum in time. To extend the time to this replacement as much as possible, it is necessary to provide a system for the pre-filtering of the solid particles.
